Recreation:
The opportunities in San Juan County are endless during any time of
the year. Visitors enjoy jeeping, hiking, biking, walking,
fishing, skiing, snowshoeing, ATVing, and much more.

The Durango
and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railway:
Spend the day riding one of the most famous and scenic historic
steam trains in America. The train curves its way through the
Animas River canyon, and runs daily between May and October.

June:
Step Back In Time Victorian Celebration:
:
A well-loved weekend filled with events celebrating Silverton's
Victorian Heritage. Including dances, a fashion show, parade,
ice cream social, and more. (Early June) |

June: The
Silverton Jubilee:
This annual folk music festival is a favorite of music lovers all
over the west. Drawing an impressive lineup of musicians, the
show lasts for three days and features a songwriting contest, food
and craft vendors and more. (Late June) |

July:
Silverton's 4th of July Celebration:
There's nothing like it! The biggest fireworks display on the
western slope of Colorado and a weekend filled with events such as a
Rhubarb Festival, parade and firefighter water fight. |

July:
Brass Band Festival and Concerts:
Silverton is home to a nationally recognized brass band festival
which draws musicians from all over the nation. Our own local
brass band plays weekly concerts throughout the summer on Sunday
evenings at 6pm. (mid-July) |

Skiing:
Silverton is conveniently located near three ski areas and two cat
ski operations.
Silverton
Mountain is known for its extreme terrain and guided adventures
(7 miles).
Durango
Mountain Resort is a full service family ski resort (20 miles).
Kendall Mountain Ski Area is owned and operated by the Town of
Silverton and offers a rope tow lift to access terrain.
Excellent for family skiing and beginners. |
